Parenthood is one of the biggest joys in life, but it isn’t the easiest task for a person to take on. It comes with its own unique struggles and sacrifices. Yet, parents will frequently do whatever it takes to ensure their children are adequately taken care of and have everything they need in life.

Nicole & Arianna Fitts

Nicole Fitts was a 32-year-old single mother with two children who resided in San Francisco, California. She struggled financially and resorted to living in a homeless shelter to keep a roof over her head. Nicole decided to send her oldest daughter to her father’s house in Southern California so she could live a better life. However, she chose to keep her 2-year-old daughter, Arianna, with her.

While Nicole was in the homeless shelter, she met a “street pastor” named Lemasani Briggs. The two women struck up a friendship, and Lemasani invited Nicole and Arianna to live in her home with her. Nicole agreed and paid the monthly rent to Lemasani as well as a babysitting fee. However, within a few months, Lemasani’s niece, Siolo Hearne, took over babysitting Arianna while Nicole was at work.

Separate Ways

It had not been a positive relationship despite Lemasani opening her home to Nicole and Arianna. Nicole’s sister had stated Lemasani was abusive to Nicole. She would frequently read Nicole’s private journal, send her text messages calling her names, and refused to give her a key to the house.

Nicole’s sister and her friend convinced Nicole to leave Lemasani’s home and move in with them. Nicole agreed and left with Arianna in November 2015 and moved in with her loved ones. However, it meant she would be two hours away from her job at Best Buy, but she was determined to make it work.

New Normal

Nicole may have been far away from her place of employment, but she didn’t give up. While she didn’t have a car of her own, she still managed to make the commute to work every day. Nicole would often work long
