The Texarkana Moonlight Murders
Who left a trail of five slain victims behind in his wake?
Texarkana is a quiet, little town that straddles the border of Texas and Arkansas. People lived a happy and simple life, that is until murder came to town.
The Terror Begins
On February 22, 1946, Jimmy Hollis, age 24, was winding up the evening with his date Mary Jeanne Larey, age 19. Jimmy had found a secluded corner on a dark, quiet road just off Richmond Road. He wanted to spend some alone time with Mary Jeanne before bringing her home for the evening.
However, the young lovers were interrupted by a man wearing a burlap mask. The man appeared at the window and shined a flashlight into the vehicle. He demanded the couple get out of the car.
The man hit Jimmy in the head with the gun cracking his skull. His attention was then focused on Mary Jeanne. He told her to run and proceeded to chase her down. Mary Jeanne was also hit in the head before being sexually assaulted with the gun.
The perpetrator was scared away as another car started to pull up to the area. The couple was traumatized, but survived their ordeal.
