The Independence Day Murders
The unsolved murders of Shane Stewart and Sally McNelly.
Shane Stewart and Sally McNelly were a young couple living in San Angelo in 1988, Texas who fell in love with each other almost immediately. There was an instant spark between the two of them and they hardly spent any time apart, but they definitely ran into their share of trouble as their relationship developed.
Sally had a painful and troubled childhood that led to her own insecurities and low self-esteem. As much as she liked people she wasn’t sure people felt the same way about her and she was always looking for a sense of acceptance which led her to choose friends who weren’t necessarily the best for her. Sally’s new friends were a part of a satanic cult and they got her involved in activities she wouldn’t normally partake it causing her to become more rebellious as she spent more time with them.
Sally introduced Shane to her new group of friends as she wanted the boy she loved to be a part of the group as well. Shane was normally an easy-going guy, however, his father, Marshall, noticed Shane became more aggressive after he started to spend time with the cult. Marshall felt his son was getting into more fights and he warned his son to be careful.
